Going to India: how to apply for a visa?

A trip to India should be planned well in advance. You should not forget anything (plane tickets, suitcase, vaccines, etc.). To go to India, it is mandatory to apply for a visa. From now on, it is possible to simplify your life by making your request on the Internet. How to apply for a visa for India? What are the holdups ? And the prices? We tell you more.

Complete your electronic visa application

Applying for an e-visa is much simpler than applying for a conventional visa. All you have to do is visit the official website, set up by the Indian authorities then download and fill in the online application form. Be careful, however, and take great care when filling in the form, as the slightest error or a single small typo can compromise your chances of your application being successful. The Indian authorities could then refuse your application and this would delay receipt of your visa.

The application for an e-visa to India must be made in English. If you are not sufficiently at ease with this language, it is possible to use an agency that specialises in the administrative procedures for obtaining an e-visa. The agency acts as an intermediary between you and the authorities of the country you wish to visit. It is also the agency that sends you, by email, your e-visa, once your application has been accepted.

All you have to do is print it and remember to take it with you on your departure day.

How much does an e-visa for India cost?

An electronic visa cost, until recently, approximately 47 € against 130,00 € for a classic visa obtained at an embassy. It is possible to pay directly online, with a valid credit card. If you use an agency, then you will need to add the costs relating to this agency.

Since 2018, the costs of obtaining an e-visa for India have increased sharply. You now have to pay between 22 € And 72 € consular fees. This fee varies according to the type of e-Visa chosen.

What are the deadlines for obtaining the e-visa? How long is it valid?

As a general rule, it's very quick to get an e-visa for India. It only takes a few days (less than 7), if your application is approved straight away. Once your application has been approved, you will receive your e-visa by e-mail within 72 hours maximum.

If you wish to obtain a tourist e-visa for India, you should know that it will be valid for making a stay in India not exceeding 90 days (or 30 days for a one-month visa). However, and this is where it's particularly interesting, it allows multiple entries and exits on Indian territory. Be careful, the entries and exits must all take place within the interval of the dates shown on your visa and which correspond to your dates of stay. It is also possible to apply for a visa valid for a whole year, but it is important to note that you will only be able to stay in the country for a maximum of 90 days each time.

It is also possible that, depending on one element of your request (religion, country of origin, profession), the Indian authorities decide to only grant you a visa for three months with only one possible entry into the territory.
