How to get a visa for India?

Do you want to go to India? Well, first know that it is mandatory to obtain a visa beforehand. How ? Here is all the information needed to obtain a visa for India.

Is a visa necessary?

Regardless of your nationality, if you travel to India, you need a visa (except for nationals of Nepal and Bhutan. Maldivians can stay without a visa for a period of 90 days).

To apply, you must download and complete the online application form on the Indian government website. You must complete this form very carefully because it must meet the requirements of the Indian authorities. Any error or clumsiness would inevitably lead to the refusal of your file and this would then delay the sending of your visa.

It is not recommended to submit your application to the Indian embassy or consulate in your country more than 6 months before your departure date. In fact, your visa would then no longer be valid at the time of your trip and you would not be able to enter Indian territory. Be careful !

Complete your application correctly

You need to be very precise and careful when filling in your online application. This will avoid a delay or outright rejection of your application. If you think you are having difficulty filling in your form, you can use a website or agency to do it for you. There are now a multitude of these specialising in traditional visa applications or electronic visas (which are simpler and quicker). The agency takes care of filling in your application, submitting it to the Indian authorities and emailing you the visa once the application has been accepted. <Easy, fast and efficient!

The visa application form must be completely completed and duly signed. Do not make erasures or handwritten corrections as this would result in a refusal by the consulate. Above all, you must be precise about the information concerning your country of origin, the country you wish to visit, the type of visa desired (tourism, work, etc.) but also everything concerning your passport, your profession, your nationality, etc.

It is necessary to provide several supporting documents with your request. It is necessary, of course:

  • a copy of your passport (the page with the photo and two blank pages, side by side)
  • an identity photo in 5 x5 cm format
  • If you wish to visit Sikkim during your stay, you must seek permission. To do this, you must apply for it at the same time as your visa application.

Visa validity for India

A tourist visa allows you to stay in India for no more than 30 or 90 days. It does, however, allow several entries into and exits from the country, all of which must take place between the dates stated on the visa and corresponding to your dates of stay.

You can apply for a visa valid for one year but be aware that your stays cannot exceed 90 days each time.

⚠️ Beware, the Indian authorities may decide to grant you only a three-month, single-entry visa, depending on your background, profession or even religion. Whatever the purpose of your stay...
