Are you planning to take a trip to India? But before you leave, you have several things to consider and prepare. Here is some useful information and advice so you don't forget anything before your departure.
Visa application
The visa is a mandatory document to go to India. Your passport must also be valid, at least 6 months after the date of your return.. There are two types of visa: the Tourist Visa and the e-Visa. The first is obtained at an embassy while for the second, an online request is sufficient. It's easier and faster.
⚠️ Your return ticket may be requested as soon as you board the plane or upon your arrival in India. Remember to reserve it in advance to be able to present it.
Book accommodation
It is also possible to travel day by day and only book hotels once you get there, but if you like everything to be well organized, you can look for the best deals as early as possible. It is also possible to opt for a guest house run by a local family and where the prices are very inexpensive.
Choose your route
Do you prefer to go on an adventure and not prepare anything in advance? Free to you. Backpacking is popular and is ideal for meeting people and immersing yourself in the atmosphere of the country. If you prefer everything to be square, choose your route. Opt for example for an organized tour, which is more reassuring and allows you to discover the country without worrying too much about the rest. or for a tour with a driver, which is more flexible and allows you to negotiate accommodation more easily.
Convenience
This may include vaccines for example. If no vaccination is required to travel to India, make sure you are up to date. It is advisable to get the hepatitis A vaccine, especially if you want to go to more rural India.
To be able to book your hotels or surf the Internet in India, why not buy an Indian SIM card as soon as you arrive. This is the cheapest solution. Or check with your telephone operator in France to see what they can offer you.
Prepare your suitcase
Choose comfortable and appropriate clothing: leggings, jeans, underwear, socks, flip-flops, sandals and trainers. Also take a large scarf to hide your hair (especially in temples) and protect you from the heat and a warmer jacket (for mountainous regions). Pack the usual hygiene products but also medicines, sun cream, insect repellent and your own towel.
